Hyundai’s public relations department has given us an early look at the 2012 Hyundai Accent. The image, published on the company’s Twitter feed, shows an Accent five-door hatchback at the Coachella music festival in California.
The post promises the car will make an official debut at the New York auto show this Wednesday, although we previously saw the new Accent when it bowed at the Montreal Auto Show in January. In Canadian specification, the car was fitted with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine producing 138 horsepower and 123 pound-feet of torque. The car’s styling is heavily influenced by that of the new Elantra sedan, with flowing strakes and creases along each side of the body.
The current Accent, last redesigned for the 2006 model year, is powered by a 1.6-liter engine making just 110 horsepower. It is offered here as either a sedan and three-door hatchback, which pricing from an eminently affordable $10,705.
The Canadian market will receive the 2012 Accent in both sedan and five-door hatchback configuration. This photo proves a hatch is coming to the U.S. market, but we’ll have to wait until Wednesday to find out whether a sedan also is in the cards.
