Just Listed: 1992 Porsche 911 America Roadster with Just 3,366 Miles on the Clock
One of the rarest 911s from the 1990s
Sorry, but you missed the boat on cheap Porsches by a mile. If you were hoping this 1992 Porsche 964 911 America Roadster carries a price tag as meager as the figure on the odometer, look away. This is one of the rarest and most sought-after drop-top Porsches of the '90s, and will cost an appropriate amount to park it in your car-filled warehouse.
As Porsche is wont to do, the handsome America Roadster was a special edition of the regular 964 Cabriolet. This was Porsche's way of commemorating the four decades that had passed since the creation of the original 356 America Roadster back in 1952, when famed importer Max Hoffman decided that U.S. buyers were looking for something rakish to cruise coastlines in.
In the spirit of the original, the America Roadster (AR) is more than just a fancy decklid badge. Each AR wears a Turbo body, meaning the rear haunches are ballooned out with muscular fender flares. Rare "Cup" wheels fill these deep wells, hiding Turbo-spec brake and suspension components.
Power comes from the regular 3.6-liter aircooled flat-six engine from the Carrera 2. 247 hp and 228 lb-ft of torque are shipped to the wide rear wheels through the four-speed automatic, returning contemporarily strong performance.
In a testament of restraint we're not quite sure we would be able to muster, this one-owner car covered a mere 3,366 miles in 24 years. Only 250 of these America Roadsters left the factory, and just 41 of them with the four-speed Tiptronic gearbox, making this a very rare bird.
As the sale post points out, the car was burgled from the safety of its garage, and taken for a brief joyride before being safely recovered 48 hours later. The AR was immediately whisked to a Porsche dealership, where new locks were installed and a "Make it Perfect" service regimen was performed.
Taking the rarity, condition, and single-owner status, this 1992 America Roadster is worthy of the hefty $165,000 asking price. If you're interested, hop over to Petrolicious' sale page.
