New for 2015The Volvo S80 gains the new 2.0-liter I-4 Drive-E engine and an eight-speed automatic for the 2015 model year, in addition to a number of minor trim package and feature changes. The previous I-6 continues with its six-speed automatic and remains the only all-wheel-drive option.
Vehicle OverviewThe Volvo S80 is a midsize luxury sedan available with the miserly, new Drive-E engine and FWD or the powerful turbocharged I-6 and AWD. The S80 sits above the S60 as the largest sedan offered in the Volvo lineup.
SummaryThe 2015 Volvo S80 is fitted with a pair of drivetrains, one more fuel-efficiency-focused and one sporty. The new turbocharged 2.0-liter I-4, used on the T5 Drive-E model, produces 240 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic that drives the front wheels. EPA estimates rate the Drive-E for 25/37 mpg (city/highway). Stepping up to the more powerful turbocharged 3.0-liter I-6 that produces 300 hp and 325 lb-ft of torque brings with it a six-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. EPA-estimated fuel efficiency for the T6 model is 19/28 mpg. Look for future S80s to adopt the S60's nifty supercharged and turbocharged engine that makes similar power to the S80's T6 engine (2 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque less) but is significantly more efficient.
Notable features on the S80 include the Sensus infotainment system (navigation, 7-inch touchscreen, Bluetooth, smartphone app integration, and Volvo emergency assistance), heated/ventilated front seats, adaptive cruise control, active high beams, a 360-degree camera system (birds-eye view to aid in parking), parking assist, blind-spot warning, lane-keeping assist, forward collision warning, and a Harman Kardon premium audio system.
The 2015 Volvo S80 has not been rated by the NHTSA but is considered a 2015 Top Safety Pick+ by the IIHS.
