Sterling Company Overview
The Sterling marque was a creation by now defunct British automaker Rover. Created in 1987, then Austin Rover Group developed the new brand for the American market after the failure of its Rover SD1.
The Sterling 800 Series were based on the Rover 800, the successor of the SD1, and jointly developed with Honda. Sterlings sold in the U.S. include the 825 sedan and, later, the 827 hatchback. The now famous Honda Legend is, similar, mechanically, to the Sterlings.
The brand was pulled out of the U.S. in 1991 due to reliability issues though continued to sell overseas until 1998. Rover, as part of MG Rover Group, later collapsed in
