In 1989, General Motors created the Geo brand to compete against the onslaught of economical imports (especially from Japan) entering the U.S. market at that time. Sold through Chevrolet dealerships, some of the more notable models include the Prizm, Metro, and Tracker. Interestingly, all were based on Japanese vehicles: the Prizm was designed from the Toyota Corolla while Suzuki provided the chassis and other parts for the Tracker.

The Geo brand was discontinued in 1997 with many of the remaining models, such as the Metro, absorbed in the Chevrolet brand. There are currently no plans to revive the moniker.
