Daewoo Company Overview
GM Daewoo Auto & Technology was founded in 1937 as National Motors in South Korea. After several name changes and buyouts throughout the decades, it entered a joint partnership with General Motors to create General Motors Korea around 1972. Later, the Daewoo Group took over the company in 1982 and the newly named Daewoo Motors began to sell its own brand and designs starting in 1996. Until that year, most Daewoos sold were rebadged GM vehicles. General Motors would later create the new company, GM Daewoo, in 2002 after Daewoo Motors ran into financial troubles.
GM Daewoo continues to sell worldwide under a plethora of names and brands.

GM Daewoo continues to sell worldwide under a plethora of names and brands. The Daewoo Gentra, a compact car, is sold as both the Chevrolet Aveo and the Holden Barina (Australia and New Zealand). The now discontinued Suzuki Verona is based off GM Daewoo's Magnus mid-sized sedan. (GM and Suzuki both have shares in GM Daewoo). Same with the current Forenza and Reno sedans. Note that GM markets most of its Daewoo's under the Chevrolet brand.
Exclusive Daewoo Motors vehicles included the compact Lanos, and mid-sized Leganza and Nubira.
Upcoming vehicles from GM Daewoo include the Opel Antara crossover which is based off the Daewoo Winstorm. It is scheduled to arrive in the United States as the all-new 2008 Saturn Vue.
The Chevrolet Beat, Groove, and Trax subcompact concepts, recently introduced at the 2007 New York Auto Show, are from GM Daewoo. Same with the stunning Chevrolet WTTC Ultra concept which debut at the Paris Motor Show last year.
