New For 2014

The 2014 Subaru Impreza sees few changes. A rearview camera is now standard on Limited models, and Aha integration is now included with the optional navigation system.

Vehicle Summary

Like all Subarus besides the BRZ coupe, the Impreza comes with standard all-wheel drive. This used to be a penalty when it came to fuel economy, but the 2014 Subaru Impreza has a 2.0-liter horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine that's rated at 27/36 mpg city/highway when equipped with the continuously variable automatic transmission. The rally-inspired WRX and STI models continue to use turbocharged 2.5-liter engines that aren't terribly efficient, but they more than make up for that with their exhilarating performance. Electric power steering is now standard on all Imprezas except for the WRX and the STI. Thanks to a recent redesign, the Impreza is more stylish than the previous model, but we still prefer the aggressive look of an STI over that of the base car any day.

At first glance, it seems like nothing is really new for the 2014 Subaru Impreza. The last all-new Impreza came out for the 2012 model year, so we expect to see a slight update at some point in 2014. Subaru will probably make minor cosmetic changes and keep most of the mechanical parts the same.

We expect much bigger changes for the WRX and STI models over the next twelve months. The WRX and STI have been humming along on the old Impreza platform for the past two years and are overdue for an upgrade. Subaru has done an admirable job of keeping the details surrounding the new WRX and STI secret, so we don't know exactly what to expect. It's likely that fuel economy will improve and the cars' design will become more aggressive.

The 2014 Subaru Impreza has all the expected safety appointments, good fuel economy, and a nice interior, and yet Subaru has managed to hold the line on pricing. The Impreza remains one of the best bargains on the market, but it doesn't come across as an inexpensive car when you look at it or drive it. Increases in trunk capacity and rear-seat legroom are sure to please shoppers who found the old Impreza a bit cramped. The Impreza is available in a wide range of trim levels, so there should be at least one variant that fits your needs.

2014 Toyota Corolla S Front Three Quarters In Motion
The Toyota Corolla retook the number-one sales spot from the Honda Civic this past month, selling 30,883 units to the Civic's 30,038. The Hyundai Elantra again came in third place, with sales of 22,213, but improved its performance from last month.

When an automotive journalist buys a new car, a lot of questions follow. What did you get? Why? How much? Really?
2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid Green Rear Three Quarters Static
With winter still exerting its chilly wrath across much of the country, many car shoppers want one key feature in a new car: all-wheel drive (AWD). With power delivered to all four wheels, there’s a better chance of getting traction in ice, snow, and slush. While we'd advise that fitting any car with winter tires can improve your cold-weather driving experience, an all-wheel-drive car does improve the chances of avoiding a costly bill from a friendly tow-truck. Fortunately, buying a car with all-wheel drive doesn't have to break the budget, as we’ve proven here with a list of the ten most affordable cars with AWD. We’ve focused on user-friendly cars and crossovers with full-time AWD, so you won’t find any trucks with off-road-style, part-time four-wheel-drive systems.
2014 Subaru Impreza Crash Test 2
The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s rigorous small-overlap front crash test has been stumping vehicles left and right, but models from Subaru and Volvo have just passed with flying colors. The 2014 Subaru Impreza, the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek, and the 2014 Volvo XC90 were each rated “Good” on the small-overlap front crash test, meaning that they earn the IIHS’ highest Top Safety Pick + rating.
The Subaru Impreza has always offered an intriguing mix of all-wheel-drive, affordability, and -- particularly in its WRX guise -- performance, but it's never exactly been lauded for aesthetics. That may soon change, however, if the company's new Impreza Design Concept, unveiled today at the 2010 Los Angeles Auto Show, is any indication of the vehicles to come.
