Long-Term 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee Update - SUMMER 2011 (3 OF 3)
Months in service: Eight / Miles to date: 20,214
Since returning at the start of the summer from its stay in New York, our Grand Cherokee has become quite the office favorite thanks to its Swiss army knife-like ability to just about anything.
At the beginning of the month, the Jeep went in for its third scheduled service. The dealer performed a regular oil and filter change and cleared a fault code for the air suspension, although we'd had no problems with it. We also asked the dealer to take a look at the playback issue with our rear-seat DVD player that we reported last month, but no problem was found. Maybe that copy of "Finding Nemo" had just been played by art director Matt Tierney's family too many times. Our grand total for the service was an extremely reasonable $32.59
With over 20,000 miles on the odometer, the Jeep is on track to reach 30,000 miles in its year with us. So far, the Grand Cherokee is holding up so well. "I'm impressed by how well the Jeep is aging," wrote deputy editor Joe DeMatio. "It still feels incredibly solid and stout, and the interior is also wearing well. Some Four Seasons test cars feel like they've had the daylights beaten out of them by nearly 20K miles, but this Jeep doesn't."

The interior looks almost as good as it did the day we picked it up and none of the high-quality materials have lost their luster. "The interior design continues to sweep me off my feet each time I open the door and slide behind the wheel," wrote associate online editor Evan McCausland. "I've been seeing photos of this cabin for what feels like years now, and climbing into it for months on end, yet it still looks as attractive and upscale as it did when I first saw it in 2009."
Our Jeep has strayed from paved roads, as associate editor Eric Tingwall drove it extensively on dirt two-tracks, and copy editor Rusty Blackwell has blasted down country gravel roads at 70 mph. Black well is struck by the fact that "Jeep has done a very good job of building products that perform the dual purposes of off-road ruggedness and on-road comfort and versatility."
Off-road or on, make sure to check back next month to see where our Grand Cherokee has taken us next.
