2010 Audi Q5 3.2 - Four Seasons Update - July 2010

SUMMER
2010 Audi Q5 reviews to date

Our Audi Q5 has reached the three-quarter mark in its four-seasons test and it is leaving quite a good impression with our office. A couple of lengthy service visits aside, the Q5 has proven to be the real deal in the compact luxury SUV segment.

One aspect of this car that has been earning praise all year is the 3.2-liter V-6 engine and the silky smooth transmission, even with more than 24,000 miles on the odometer. Says senior web editor Phil Floraday: "I'm still impressed by the Q5's transmission, I drove a Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG over the weekend and I wish its 7-speed automatic were as responsive as this SUV's 6-speed."

Editor-in-chief Jean Jennings took the Q5 on a weekend jaunt to Louisville, Kentucky. She compared the Q5's handling to that of a sports sedan; a sports sedan that boasts 57.3 cu-ft of cargo room with the rear seats folded down. Jennings adds, "You can fit an amazing amount of stuff in the back with the rear seats folded down; and the bulge in the hatch allows for bulkier items to fit."

Unfortunately with the rear seats up, cargo space isn't as generous, with capacity nearly cut in half, to 29.1 cu-ft. Associate editor Eric Tingwall swooped up the keys to the Q5 for the extended Fourth of July weekend with plans to pack it full of gear and head to northern Michigan with family. As Tingwall notes, "when it came time to pack, it was immediately clear that the Q5 is significantly smaller than my parents 2010 Chevy Equinox, particularly in the back seat. We opted for spaciousness over style and drove the Chevy up north."

Although Tingwall had to leave the Audi on the dock, the Q5 is still the most popular four-seasons vehicle in the fleet; and since it had the tow package installed a couple months ago, the keys have been even harder to find. Upcoming plans for the Q5 include a little off-roading next month and a trip to the East Coast, so the Audi's final season looks like it will be just as busy as its previous three.
