We are just past the halfway mark in our yearlong test and, after a lengthy service visit last month, all is well with our sporty crossover.

With summer now upon us, and camping season officially open, we had our Q5 equipped with a trailer hitch. An overnight stay at the dealer and $1045 later, our Q5 is now capable of towing up to 4400 pounds. Deputy editor Joe DeMatio was the first to try out the new hardware, "We used the Q5's new tow hitch with 2-inch receiver twice over the weekend to pull our 10-foot, single-axle utility trailer, which weighs about 1200 pounds. The Q5 performed very well, although our loads were relatively light: a washer and dryer one time, and a bunch of boxes and bins filled with household goods on another trip."

Art director Matt Tierney also used the Q5 to tow a trailer to Ann Arbor from Asheville, NC. "The Q5 didn't miss a beat with a couple thousand extra pounds tagging along. Acceleration and braking in the Smoky Mountains were stellar, and it still managed to get nearly 20 mpg."

Even though our Q5 is now able to tow, we still haven't forgotten what a fun little road carver it can be given the chance. On Michigan's scenic west coast, a few staff members had a chance to get some quality seat time. Associate editor Eric Tingwall said, "I've criticized the Q5's steering before, but once you're at speed it actually has pretty good feel. The ride can become tiresome when you're looking for a relaxed commuter, but those concessions are worth it for the excellent handling and exceptional body control. Along with that peach of a powertrain, it makes for an incredibly dynamic SUV. I'd have no hesitations in recommending this Q5 to anybody in the small luxury SUV market."
