The Genesis has been in our fleet for five months and, despite repeated gripes about the harsh ride and generic exterior, it continues to garner praise from the Automobile Magazine staff on everything from the nicely-weighted steering and smooth V-8 to the well-wrought, feature-laden interior. The more time we spend behind the wheel of the Genesis, the more it demonstrates that it is a legitimate competitor to the luxury sedans from Europe, Japan, and the U.SA.

"My first time in the Genesis. I plopped onto the big leather seat, which is as soft as a sofa, and thought, "Uh-oh, will this car suffer that Korean idea of luxury (silent, pillow-soft, and feedback-free)? But instead, I found that the steering is pleasantly weighted rather than hopelessly overboosted-a nice surprise. And contrary to many other opinions here, I thought the ride quality was pretty good over the broken pavement. I give the Genesis full marks for the audio/navigation/climate control interface, which is very easy to use right from the get-go. The interior is attractive with lots of cool, LED lighting. the swiveling low beams do a good job, but the high beams are weak."

"I chose the Genesis to take my usual Mother's Day voyage to upper Michigan. I found the Genesis to be an effortless car to drive fast. Just point it onto the entrance ramp and hit the gas. Smooth, linear power delivery and a surprisingly rorty intake roar. Very pleasing, really, and the six-speed automatic is quite responsive to your right foot.
"Like Lorio, I was disappointed in the high-beam headlights. They have a very good, broad short-range spread, but they do not "reach" at all, like a good set of headlights do.
"I found the Bluetooth interface to be, hands down, the easiest one I've ever operated. The iPod connectivity was extremely easy, too. And, of course, the stereo is superb, as is the iDrive-style interface."

"Is it sad that I prefer spending time behind the wheel of our Genesis 4.6 more than I do our 750Li? People can't believe I'd think such a thing, but I can't get over the artificial feel of the BMW, which is supposed to be a "driving machine." The steering, throttle, and body control often feel artificial and non-linear, which drives me up the wall. I have none of those issues in the Genesis, although the mildly harsh ride is not quite fitting in a luxury car like this. The steering feels nicely weighted, and doesn't tend to bind in tight corners. Power comes on gradually, although hole shots prompt the ZF gearbox to rush a harsh downshift.
"I'll agree with my colleagues that the car's navigation and iPod interface are top-notch, but here's one quandary: I couldn't find how to get the stereo to shuffle songs on my third-generation iPod Nano. I saw plenty of ways to sort through artists, albums, and songs, but nothing to randomly sift through my 1300-song collection. Perhaps I'm not looking in the right spot." ...next page >>
