Months in Fleet: Four
As the roomiest and most luxurious vehicle in our Four Seasons fleet - titles recently ceded to our heavily optioned, $100,000-plus BMW 750Li - the Genesis has become a vehicle of choice for long trips. With families in tow, our two youngest staffers logged more than 3000 miles in the last month alone. Here is what they had to say about the big Hyundai:
David Zenlea, Assistant Editor
"The Genesis was the perfect choice for a weekend sprint to Rochester, Minnesota, and back. The interior is splendid and extremely user-friendly. I noticed last night that along with the fronts, the rear sill plates are also illuminated - nice touch. I still think the Genesis is awfully generic-looking, but so is every Lexus sedan, and it hasn't stopped them from winning thousands of loyal customers."
Mike Ofiara, Road Test Coordinator
"The Genesis seemed like a good choice for a weekend trip to Kentucky to see my sister. It's such an easy car to like. I was barely fatigued after the seven-hour drive to Louisville. This car can be aimed with one finger on the wheel even at highway speeds, not that I would attempt it, but it's that effortless to drive. I set the cruise at 75 mph and got 26.5 mpg; that's higher than the EPA numbers suggest and impressive for a 4.6-liter V-8.
"The interior amenities are nice, although on an unseasonably warm April day, my fiance was jealous that her seat didn't have the cooling feature like mine. The radio/nav system is very intuitive and easy to reach for both the driver and passenger.
"My passengers were impressed with the huge back seat and my sister thought she was riding in a Lexus--a comparison that has become commonplace in the short time that we've had the Genesis.
"The ride home was windy and rainy but the Genesis held its own on the wet freeway. The car stayed planted even when I couldn't avoid large areas of standing water. After about 1000 miles of driving the Genesis, I really feel this is a quality automobile. Only time will tell if it can stand up to the punishment we will put it through over the next eight months." ...next page >>
