2015 Porsche Panamera

New for 2015

The Porsche Panamera, which was refreshed for 2014, gains new standard equipment (satellite radio, HD radio receiver, online services, and HID headlights), available 20-inch wheels from the 911 Turbo, and two new exterior paint color options for 2015: Jet Black Metallic and Sapphire Blue Metallic.

Vehicle Overview

The Porsche Panamera is a full-size executive sports four-door that’s available in 12 forms, from the GTS with a twin-turbo V-8, to the stretched-wheelbase 4S Executive. The Panamera is the only non-SUV four-door in the Porsche portfolio, but it stands alongside the 911 in price.

The 2015 Porsche Panamera is powered by a trio of V-6 engines and an available V-8 that gains a pair of turbochargers in more powerful trims. The excellent seven-speed PDK is the transmission of choice for all but the hybrid models, which gets an eight-speed automatic instead.

The Porsche Panamera is an executive luxury sedan with accommodations for four, yet a sporting attitude that does the nameplate proud. To accomplish its executive-shuttle mission, the car offers features including four-zone automatic climate control, heating/ventilation for all four seats, dual seven-inch rear-seat entertainment screens, a Bose or Burmester premium sound system, thermal/noise insulated glass, power rear sun blinds (for the rear and side windows), and soft-close mechanisms for each door. In favor of the Panamera’s heritage-honoring sporting mission are lightning-fast PDK shifts (when desired), VarioCam for dynamic performance, an adaptive air suspension, Dynamic chassis control, available Ceramic Composite brakes, and a line that features twin-turbo V-8s with several pumping out more than 500 hp.
The 2015 Porsche Panamera has not yet been crash tested by the NHTSA or the IIHS.

What We Think

The 2015 Porsche Panamera is two vehicles at once: an executive sedan from the back seat, and a sports car from the front. The 4S Executive exemplifies the big-four-door side of the Panamera, with 4.7 more inches of rear legroom and more standard equipment. With nearly one-third of all Panamera sales happening in China where the wealthy prefer to be chauffeured, a stretched Porsche sedan makes more sense.
About the V-6 that recently replaced a V-8 on Panamera S models, we noted in a Driven review of a 2014 Panamera: “Power comes on early and the [V-6] engine pulls hard across the rev range with a determined, predictable shove. There are no peaks or valleys in the turbocharger's output, and the V-6 responds to the accelerator about as linearly as a naturally aspirated one.” If you’ll be driving the car yourself, or fancy the occasional spirited drive, we suggest those “who want a truly sporty Panamera can buy the louder, lower, and stiffer GTS, or the supremely powerful Turbo.”
"Unless you push the Sport Plus switch, [the Panamera Turbo is] a quiet car that slips away from a stop in second gear so as not to surprise passengers with any undue acceleration," we wrote in a review. "The air suspension handles road imperfections commendably considering the car's 20-inch wheels and low-profile tires. It's not as sublime as, say, a Mercedes S-Class, but you'll hear no complaints from friends riding shotgun."
One major disappointment is the throttle response of the hybrid, and in a Driven review of a 2014 Porsche Panamera S e-Hybrid, we said, “in traffic [the Panamera Hybrid] feels hesitant. It’s like the car is always thinking about how much gas and electric power to deliver.” We praised the brakes for a seamless handoff between the physical stoppers and regenerative braking, but also bemoaned the eight-speed automatic and how it was noticeably more languid than the PDK.
From a 2014 Panamera Turbo review: "Sure, we could bemoan the Porsche Panamera's awkwardly shaped rump, the fact that a 520-hp sedan is near pointless outside the autobahn network, the submarine-like rear visibility, and the lofty price tag. Or we could simply sit back and appreciate that this four-door Porsche is a fabulous way to get around town."

Porsche Panamera Edition 1
Porsche released details on a new Panamera variant aimed at offering more equipment and standard features in a more affordable package. The new Porsche Panamera Edition is offered on the base Panamera and Panamera 4, both of which use the base car’s 3.6-liter, 310 hp V-6.
2015 Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series Side
The 2015 Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series may cost an astonishing $264,895 with destination, but that didn’t stop every single unit from selling out within 48 hours of hitting the market. That’s right—all 100 examples of the ultra-high-end sedan (30 of which will come to the U.S.) were snatched up in less than two days. According to Autocar, Porsche is pleased with the result, and the company is eager to repeat their success with another future offering from Porsche Exclusive.
2014 Porsche Panamera Left Rear
After years of constant updates and new versions, the Porsche Panamera sport sedan will get a full overhaul for the 2017 model year. Autocar has more details on this redesigned model that will boast lightweight materials and improved styling when it arrives in late 2016.
2015 Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series Front Three Quarter In Motion
Confirming our earlier suspicions, Porsche Exclusive will produce a 100-vehicle run of an ultra-high-end Panamera. Based on the top-of-the-line Panamera Turbo S Executive, the limited-edition 2015 Porsche Panamera Exclusive Series will make its debut at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show.
Next Gen Porsche Panamera Prototype Front Three Quarter
The Porsche Panamera is set to receive some considerable changes for its next generation, and spy photographers were there to snap shots of it testing for the first time. This decently camouflaged Panamera prototype should be the first of many we'll see in the future.
