2013 Nissan Rogue
2013 Nissan Rogue

New For 2013

For 2013, the Special Edition Package gains two more speakers, steering-wheel audio controls, a backup camera, foglights, and privacy glass. At $1200, the package represents a discount of $1500 compared with buying those components individually. The Premium Package for the SV adds foglights and a Bose sound system.

The Nissan Rogue received a flashy refresh in 2011 and arrives for 2013 with only mild changes. The front fascia wears the same wide chrome grille seen on other Nissan SUVs; an upswept beltline and a rear spoiler add a hint of style to the otherwise sensible Rogue. The compact, curvy exterior contrasts with an interior that is roomy and functional but fairly bland. The dashboard and the center console are made from swaths of plastic that fail to live up to the style statement set by the sheetmetal. The high seating position affords an excellent view of traffic, and the rear seat and the cargo area are larger than the outside dimensions suggest. Nissan pitches the Rogue as a sporty compact SUV, and although it is somewhat fun to drive, the soft suspension tuning and the average steering feel don’t really meet our definition of sporty. Acceleration is adequate, thanks to a healthy 170 hp and 175 lb-ft of torque from a 2.5-liter in-line four-cylinder engine. The only transmission is a continuously variable automatic. The standard equipment roster has such items as an iPod interface, keyless entry, four tie-down hooks in the cargo area, an underfloor cargo organizer, sixteen-inch wheels, and a giant “bucket style” glove box. Options packages can add leather seats, touch-screen navigation, a moonroof, a Bose sound system, and eighteen-inch aluminum wheels.

Front, side, and side curtain air bags; stability and traction control; ABS with brake assist; and a tire-pressure monitoring system are standard.

Nissan Common Module Family Diagram
One of the most important fruits of the Renault-Nissan partnership is a new modular chassis architecture called Common Module Family, or CMF. Like the MQB platform introduced with the Volkswagen Golf and Audi A3, CMF will allow Renault and Nissan to create multiple different types of vehicles on just a few basic building blocks.
2014 Nissan Rogue Front Three Quarters
Last year, Nissan announced that it would be introducing five new models over the next 15 months. Since then, we have seen the 2013 Altima midsized sedan, the 2013 Sentra compact sedan, the 2013 Pathfinder three-row crossover, and the 2014 Versa Note subcompact. With one month to go, last, but not least, will be the 2014 Nissan Rogue crossover, which our spy photographers recently caught testing in the desert.
2013 Nissan Rogue Front Three Quarter
The Nissan Rogue has a few things going for it: fuel efficiency, on-road prowess, on-board technology. Add price to that list: at $23,135, the 2013 Nissan Rogue undercuts most of its major competitors’ base prices.
