Yes, SEMA, You Can Tow a Big Boat With the 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

Chevrolet unveiled more truck-based Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) specials in Las Vegas on Monday, one of which drives home the point that the new midsize 2015 Chevrolet Colorado pickup has nearly the tow capabilities of its full-size brother. As if to drive that point home, the Chevy Silverado special that bowed early Monday carries a much smaller payload, though in its bed.

Chevrolet Colorado Advanced Nautique Concept

The Colorado Advanced Nautique Concept pulls a boat with a bigger engine than its own 3.6-liter V-6. The Super Air Nautique 210 is powered by a 450-hp L96 6.0-liter small-block V-8 and lends its bling to the Colorado, with matching burnt orange metalflake and black paint. The Colorado features a modular-system bed insert. The 4,200-pound boat (on an 1,100-foot trailer) is a deceptively good choice — boats are easier to tow than boxy trailers because of their good aero/hydro-dynamics.

Chevrolet Silverado Polaris Concept

The Silverado Polaris is painted blue and orange, with gray graphics, to match the Polaris Ace off-roader, which is a kind of road-dinghy for the big truck, in its bed.

Chevrolet Silverado High Desert Concept

This is the off-roader’s Silverado High Country, with its own grille design and color palate, including orange inserts within the brushed wheels, and what Chevrolet calls a “sporty, upscale premium look.” Bed accessories include a divider at the rearmost third of the floor.

Chevrolet Tahoe and Suburban Premium Outdoors Concept

This “high-end camping edition” is the SUV version of the Silverado High Country, with matte and satin finishes, and “sporty” interior in rich brown leather with blue piping (which we thought was a Buick thing). The six-piston brake calipers are painted red.

Chevrolet Colorado Performance Concept

Five-time American Motorcycle Association Motocross champion Ricky Carmichael has a new Chevrolet Colorado designed for him appearing on the floor of the 2014 SEMA show in Las Vegas. The midsize truck is painted Carmichael’s favorite “carbon flash” black paint with bright yellow accents.

The truck bed has racks carrying Carmichael’s Suzuki dirt bike and Trek mountain bike. The truck was unveiled Monday at the Specialty Equipment Market Association’s annual extravaganza in Sin City.
