Winging It: Brabus Unveils Aero Kit for Mercedes-Benz AMG, S-Class Models

The recent crop of AMG-tuned Mercedes-Benzes look anything but restrained, but for those looking for even less restraint, there’s a design house that offers some slightly crazier options: Brabus. It announced today that, provided you’ve got an E- or S-Class at hand, you have a few more options to make your luxo-barge look wilder. Better yet, the pieces may actually improve handling.

Brabus is offering four new kits: two for the “stock” E- and S-Class models ordered with optional AMG body styling, one for the actual E 63 AMG, and one for monstrous S 63 AMG. The aero kits first add a front lip spoiler, which attaches to the existing front fascia. Brabus says it’s designed to provide a minor increase in downforce and reduce front axle lift, which should result in better handling at high speeds.

For the E- and S-Class sedans, Brabus also adds a rear diffuser and rear spoiler: the company says the combination of the three pieces should further improve high-speed stability, which should be welcome to AMG owners who paid the extra $7300 to increase their speed limiters to 186 mph.

The kits on the AMG E- and S-Class models offer similar accoutrements, but they’re fabricated from carbon fiber instead of the lesser models’ polyurethane. AMG models can be fitted with a carbon fiber front lip spoiler, custom air ducts, a rear lip spoiler and diffuser insert.

The rear diffuser is designed to wrap around Brabus’ latest aural offering: a so-called “flap control exhaust.” It’s designed to make the new 5.5-liter biturbo V8 (or the older 6.2-liter V-8) sound normal in everyday driving, but exciting with the push of a button.
