Win a 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 for Fifty Bucks

We’re at the Shelby American Collection in Boulder, Colorado when we notice a car that seems a bit out of place. It’s not the 1962 Dragonsnake 289. Or the GT40 Mario Andretti crashed at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1967. Or Pete Brock’s Falcon sedan delivery with a race-prepped V-8 engine. It’s a 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 coupe.

What sets this one apart? We ask Steve Volk, one of the founders of the Shelby American Collection.

“You can take this one home,” Volk says. The Shelby American Collection museum is a non-profit, volunteer organization, which means it must get creative about raising enough cash to pay the bills. That’s how they decided to raffle off the very lovely 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 you see above, cordoned off by velvet ropes.

Raffle tickets are $50 each. The winner gets his or her choice of the GT500 or $50,000 cash. If you want to boost your chances, buy five tickets and you’ll get a sixth thrown in for free. There is no individual purchase cap, though only 4000 tickets are available, and 1250 of them have already been nabbed. Click here to buy a ticket.

A minimum of 2500 tickets must be sold before the car is given away. If fewer than 2500 tickets are sold, the Shelby American Collection will split whatever it has earned from ticket sales with the raffle’s winner.

The drawing happens at the annual Shelby American Collection fundraising party in Boulder on September 14. Ticket buyers do not need to be present to win, and it will cost you an extra $75 to attend.

Or, you can visit the Shelby American Collection on a Saturday, the only day it’s open to the public, for $5 and buy a second ticket, instead. We also suggest that if you’re the lucky winner of this raffle, take the 2014 Ford Shelby GT500 home. $50,000 cash is cool, but, as it sits, the Shelby GT500 is worth $64,130. Thus the black velvet ropes.
