We’re Jealous: Italian Military Police Get Lotus Evora S Pursuit Cars

Some extremely fortunato members of Italy’s Arma dei Carabinieri will get to drive one of two new Lotus Evora S sports cars. The Evoras will be put to use by the Carabinieri, a division of the Italian military, in Rome and Milan.

The cars have been outfitted with lights, communications equipment, and a voice-recognition system called Enhanced Vehicle Automation. The Lotuses also have a refrigerated compartment behind the front seats which can be used during high-speed deliveries of donated organs or blood. And we’d guess it can also keep soft drinks chilled during summer blasts along the autostrada. The Carabinieri will get the two Evoras for two years, after which we’re praying they show up on eBay still decked out in the cool lights and graphics.

Don’t think that you can get away from the cars in a pursuit. The Evora S packs a supercharged 3.5-liter V-6 with 345 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Lotus says the car can hit 60 mph in 4.6 seconds and manage a top speed of 172 mph.

Not just any Carabinieri member gets to pilot the Evoras — certain members of the team were sent to Lotus’ headquarters in Norfolk, England to receive special training behind the wheel of the Evora S. How do you say “We’re jealous” in Italian?
