People rave about the mid-engine Porsche Cayman for its superb balance and handling prowess, but rarely is it ever so impressively on display as it is here. Porsche recently posted a video to its YouTube account of the 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS tackling a narrow go-kart track in Northern Italy with surgical precision and confidence.
The video begins with a driver walking in slow-motion past a go-kart, helmet in hand. He instead hops in a blood-red 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS, and revs out the 340-hp 3.4-liter flat-six as the starting lights flicker. The Cayman GTS proceeds to slide through the go-kart track’s tight turns with fantastic speed, as the driver slings the 77.9-inch-wide body clear of the red-and-white walls. The 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS is faster, wider, and longer than the go-karts for which this track was presumably designed, meaning the driver’s reaction time and margin for error are significantly reduced.
With 14 more hp than the Cayman S, the 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS also gets electrically controlled transmission mounts, launch control, and Porsche Active Suspension Management as standard. It doesn’t hurt that the Cayman GTS looks the part of a capable track car either, given its 20-inch Carrera S wheels, dynamic lighting system, black-tipped sport exhaust, and Alcantara-lined interior.
With this crazy video in mind, Mini enthusiasts will have to make room for another vehicle’s go-kart handling. The price of entry is still a lot more palatable for the Mini, however — the 2015 Porsche Cayman GTS starts at $76,195 including destination fees, while the convertible 2015 Porsche Boxster GTS (with 330 hp) starts at $74,495.
