Volvo Australia Develops 325-hp S60 Performance Project

Volvo’s Australian arm has developed a performance-oriented show car based on the S60 T6 R Design sedan. Called the S60 Performance Project, Volvo has imbued the car with additional performance and a host of aesthetic upgrades.

The car was built in partnership with longstanding Volvo partners Heico and Polestar. The latter helped reprogram the software for the turbocharged 3.0-liter inline-six, increasing power from 300 hp to 325 hp, and torque from 325 lb-ft to 354 lb-ft.

German tuning house Heico also contributed a sporty exhaust and new 19-inch wheels shod in stickier Pirelli tires. Like the R Design model on which it is based, the S60 Performance Project rides 0.6 inch lower than stock S60s, with springs that are 15 percent stiffer than stock and dampers that are 20 percent firmer. Interior trimmings encompass bucket seats with larger side bolsters, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, blue-lit gauges, and aluminum pedals.

The Performance Project is primarily a show car that highlights the partnerships between Volvo, Heico, and Polestar. If enough customers show interest in the car, Volvo Car Australia may consider putting the model into limited-run production. It could be the first of many: New reports suggest Volvo will launch a dedicated performance wing with go-fast versions of all its models. The first such car to debut may be the C30 Performance Concept Prototype (which was inspired by the Volvo Polestar C30), but we can’t help but think something like the S60 Performance Project would be a great follow-up.
