Volkswagen’s July Sales Up 16 Percent, CC and Tiguan Set Records

Volkswagen’s July 2010 sales were up 16 percent over its July 2009 sales, the company announced today. The ever-popular Golf set a sales record for the current model while the CC and Tiguan both set all-time monthly sales records.

“A continued positive consumer response in July to our full line of vehicles has brought Volkswagen our thirteenth consecutive month of year-over-year sales growth and has provided another solid step in the right direction for our growth strategy,” said Mark Barnes, interim president of Volkswagen of America. “We have been saying for some time that Volkswagen’s combination of design, fuel economy, safety and fun driving experience is perfect for the American market and it is clear that consumers are responding.”

The Jetta, as always, was Volkswagen’s volume model in July, though total sales fell some 14 percent compared to one year ago. In fact, of all VW models, only the Jetta and the Touareg lost sales in July. One could argue that they made room for other models to shine, as sales of the CC jumped 140 percent to 3394 while Tiguan sales climbed 81 percent to 1968. The Golf, meanwhile, saw sales jump up 193 percent to 1889 for the month. Even Routan sales were up 25 percent.
