Volkswagen has taken the already aggressive-looking Volkswagen Scirocco and modified it based on the Scirocco GT24. GT24 race cars finished first and second in their class at the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring track in May.
The Volkswagen Scirocco Study R adapts the two cooling vents and aggressive front bumper from the GT24, while also gaining a huge rear wing. An Italian color scheme of white with red and green racing stripes is meant to honor the Bologna Motor Show. The side view mirrors are also red.
The 325 horsepower 2.0L TFSI engine from the GT24 is replace with a 270 horsepower 2.0L TFSI engine. A six-speed dual-clutch transmission sends power to the front wheels. Four-piston brake calipers, coilovers, and a sound-optimized exhaust system are all adapted straight from the racing car.
Rumor has it the production version of the Study R concept will be called the Scirocco R20T. Though the current production Scirocco is noticeably absent from Volkswagen’s North American lineup, we may yet see this racing-tuned version of the Scirocco brought to our shores. The R20T is expected in Europe sometime in early 2010.
