Can a skateboarder keep up with a Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG down a mountain road? Mercedes-Benz recently decided to find out with a challenge staged on the twisty, challenging Franschhoek Pass in South Africa.
The skateboarder up for the task was 24-year-old Decio Lourenco, a champion downhill skateboarder who can reach speeds of more than 60 mph equipped with nothing more than a skateboard, a helmet, and a protective racing suit. As the Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG approaches the speeding skateboard down the pass, Lourenco shows off his athletic skill with his dramatic leans and angles as he hurtles down the curvy road.
The Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG has a slightly less breathtaking run down the mountain, but Mercedes’ latest hot hatch certainly looks sporty with its matte racing stripes and rear spoiler as part of the Edition 1 package. Although the A45 AMG is not available in the U.S., its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will be available here in the upcoming Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG sedan. As AMG’s first-ever four-cylinder, this powerplant produces an impressive 355 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque, making it the most powerful production four-cylinder engine in history.
