Fiat has shown its Italian pride in previous advertisements, and its latest video has some fun with the brand’s Italiano roots. Titled “Backseat Italians,” the clip shows what it would be like if every 2014 Fiat 500L came with an Italian family for the rear seats.
Because the video’s runtime of more than three minutes makes it a bit clunky for TV, Fiat posted it to exclusive video website Funny or Die. The clip starts with a couple shopping for a Fiat 500L. Just as the two potential Fiat customers are about to pull the trigger, the husband asks about the family occupying the backseat. The couple is apparently sold on the five-door hatchback after learning that every 500L comes with an authentic Italian family.
The couple is then shown driving around performing everyday tasks, all while the three well-dressed Italians are planted permanently in the rear seats. When they’re not arguing in Italian, the three family members give directions, offer to pay for parking in Euros, and celebrate soccer goals all from the comfort of the 500L’s second row. After a week of exposure, the couple starts speaking Italian and the family is disturbed by how much their culture has rubbed off on them. The family escapes the 500L, with the son leaving a steamy goodbye note for the wife. Check out the full video below to see what it says.
