Is the 2013 Honda Civic Si Coupe as good as the Ford Focus ST and Volkswagen GTI? In this new video, Motor Trend‘s Carlos Lago takes the refreshed sport compact to the drag strip, race track, and on mountain roads to find out.
Lago first hits the drag strip where the Civic Si reaches 60 mph in 6.1 seconds and finishes the quarter-mile in 14.6 seconds at 95.6 mph. With grippy tires, the sport compact coupe stops from 60 mph in just 109 feet. With 170 lb-ft of torque, the naturally aspirated 201-hp 2.4-liter I-4 in the current Civic Si has more torque and a lower redline than previous generations. Despite the lack of forced induction, Lago contends that the Si doesn’t lack power and is in fact about as quick as some of its peers.
Around the skidpad, the Civic Si Coupe pulls 0.87 g average and goes around the figure-eight in 26.5 seconds at 0.66 g average. Despite the decent figure-eight time, Lago would prefer more control and rotation out of the rear end. Next, Lago heads to the canyons to see how the Civic Si feels in real-world driving, and assess its value compared to its modern competition.
