Video: BMW M Power App Records and Compares Lap Times

BMW owners wanting to compare lap times – with themselves or others – will want to get the M Power App available this summer. The M Power App records lap times and other vehicle data for playback and comparison, Bimmerpost reports. Check out features of the app in the video below.

The app uses the car’s existing sensors to record data for later playback. Features include lap time with scorecard view, real-time review of the lap including a comparison mode for previous laps and those of other drivers, and technical data such as throttle and steering input, braking force, lateral acceleration, engine rpm, and fuel efficiency. The app also includes a head-to-head ghost comparison mode and a custom track generator .

Bimmerpost notes that the new M Power App is not the same as the M Power Meter app currently available at the iOS app store. The new app coming this summer requires an iPhone as well as the BMW Apps option available on many BMWs including non M models.

Phil Johnston, product manager for BMW Group apps platform, and Paul Doershc, U.S. product manager and technical lead for the M Power App, demonstrate the M Power App in the video below.
