Sorry, cannabis aficionados, we’re not talking about your favorite comedy duo from the 70s and 80s. But we are talking about the high-power muscle of the 2013 Ford Shelby GT 500, and what its prodigious power output can do to a set of high-performance radials.
Before we go further, we must preface these videos by telling you they’re not exactly HD quality. But you can get the general idea, courtesy of scintillating muscle motor soundtrack. And naturally, what’s one of the first rituals you perform when you get a high-power muscle machine like the Ford Shelby GT 500? A gratuitous smoke show, of course.
So what kind of numbers is the 2013 Ford Shelby GT 500 capable of? Evan Smith, editor of Muscle Mustangs & Fast Fords, laid down a 11.8-second quarter mile at 123 mph. For reference, the Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 we recently tested did the feat in 12.6 seconds at 116 mph. The SVT fanboys are also claiming the car was thoroughly heat-soaked, a condition which can affect peak power output in high-power, forced-induction cars.
What would the Ford Shelby GT 500 be capable of under more favorable conditions? You can bet we’re going to put Ford’s high-power muscle machine to the test as soon as we can get our hands on one for testing.
Enjoy the low-resolution, but sweet-sounding clips of the 2013 Ford Shelby GT 500 below.
