Lexus is beginning production of its first hybrid-only model, the HS 250h, and Toyota will get a version of the same car — at least in Japan.
Toyota’s HS, which will reportedly be called the Toyota Sai, will be Toyota’s first dedicated hybrid sedan and its second dedicated hybrid model. The Sai will use the same 2.4-liter I-4 as the HS, which is larger and more powerful than the four-cylinder in the Prius. Although the mechanical bits will be shared with the Lexus, the Sai will reportedly gain a unique exterior and interior.
The Lexus HS 250h went on sale in the U.S. earlier this month and in July in Japan. The Sai will go on sale October 20, although it may be an exclusive to that market.
