2010-2014 Toyota Prius
The Problem: A problem with the software controlling the electric motor/generator and hybrid-drive electronic control units could cause the transistors to overheat in certain circumstances. In that case, the Toyota Prius would enter a failsafe mode that reduces engine power. In more extreme cases, power will stop altogether, resulting in the car coasting to a stop.
The Fix: Toyota will reprogram the electronic control units (ECUs) for free.
Number of Vehicles Potentially Affected: Approximately 700,000 2010-2014 Toyota Prius hybrids.
2012 Toyota RAV4, 2012-2013 Toyota Tacoma, 2012-2013 Lexus RX350
The Problem: A problem in the electronic stability control ECU software might cause the stability control, traction control, or anti-lock brakes to temporarily fail. That could make it harder for a driver to recover from a skid or to safely perform an emergency maneuver. The brakes will still function even if the ABS, TCS, and ESC functions fail.
The Fix: Toyota will reprogram the software the controls the electronic stability control in the affected cars for free.
