Toyota Corolla Reigns Supreme in March 2014 Compact Auto Sales

Another month goes by and the Corolla reigns supreme again. After starting out the year in second place, the Toyota Corolla is back on top for the second month in a row. Toyota sold 29,685 Corollas in March of 2014, putting it in first by large margin. The Honda Civic upset the Cruze for second place with 27,697 sold, while the Chevrolet Cruze was relegated to third with 26,521 sold.

The Ford Focus staged a comeback of sorts, going up a slot into fourth place with 23,974 sold in March. The Hyundai Elantra swapped spots with the Focus, with only 21,518 sold last month. Sixth place went to the Nissan Sentra again, with 19,323 sold.

The rest of the compact segment repeated last month’s rankings. Following behind the Sentra was the combined sales of the Volkswagen Jetta and Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen, with 15,692 sold – most of those sedans. Though 2014 Mazda3 sales are picking up steam, the ‘3 still finished in eighth in March, with 10,536 sold. Combined sales of the Subaru Impreza and Impreza WRX/STI (the 2015 WRX doesn’t hit dealers until this month) were good for 8089 in sales.

The top 10 was rounded out by the Kia Forte, with 7048 sold. The Dodge Dart trailed the Forte with 6135 sold. Coming in last again was the Volkswagen Golf; Just 1989 Golfs were sold last month, including four Golf Rs, 973 Golfs, and 1012 Golf GTIs.
