Toyota has promoted current senior managing director Satoshi Ozawa to be its sixth executive vice president. The position is effective May 1.
Not content with sitting idly by as its recent Lexus GX 460 recall and $16.4 million NHTSA fine make headlines, Toyota’s personnel move is most suitable. Ozawa’s board duties — European relations, human resources, and accounting — are not directly related to Toyota’s quality woes, but his new regional assignment helps another vice president in the company’s cabinet. Executive Vice President Sinichi Sasaki has been relieved of his Toyota Europe responsibilities, and will focus exclusively on quality and customer service. The six executive VPs report directly to Toyota boss Akio Toyoda.
Ozawa has been with Toyota since 1974.
