The new season of Top Gear doesn’t come back until next week, but fans of the revered British motoring show have something new to hold them over until then. The famous Top Gear Test Track in Surrey, England is now available on Google Street View.
In true Top Gear fashion, this isn’t your typical Google Street View experience. Instead of simply sending a Street View car around the track, Top Gear sent out the best white-suited racing driver it could find to go head-to-head with the Google car. Yes, we’re talking about the Stig. In a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Black Series, the Stig literally runs circles around Google’s humble camera-equipped Opel Astra hatchback. As you peruse the track on Google Maps, though, you can see the Mercedes-Benz come in and out of view on the track as it flies past the Opel.
This isn’t the first racetrack to be featured on Google Street View. Circuits including Laguna Seca Raceway in California, the Monza Formula 1 circuit in Italy, and the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas have already been recorded by one of Google’s camera cars. There are also Google tours of automotive landmarks like the Lotus Test Track and Headquarters, as well as the Mazda and Lamborghini Museums in Japan and Italy, respectively.
See the video below for a behind-the-scenes look at the Street View car’s lap around the Top Gear racetrack, and head on over to Google to get your personal tour of the Top Gear Test Track.
