Taillight Teaser: 2013 Nissan Altima Continues Slow Leak Before New York Show

With all the news about midsize sedans lately, Nissan hopes the latest teaser of the 2013 Nissan Altima‘s taillight will make an impression on buyers everywhere. The new Altima will be unveiled at the 2012 New York Auto Show in April.

Showing the 2013 Altima’s redesigned taillight, the teaser is a fitting preview of the car that originally made waves in the 2002 model year with a polished style highlighted by clear, vertical taillights. In calendar year 2012, the 2013 Nissan Altima joins the Honda Accord, Ford Fusion, and Chevrolet Malibu as midsize sedan debuts. With so much attention paid to the segment, it’s no wonder Chevrolet pushed forward the launch of the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu Eco.

As for the 2013 Nissan Altima, in teasers we’ve already seen a snippet of the car’s new “upside-down trapezoid” grille, which most closely resembles that of the new Versa sedan in stretching toward the headlights. No Versa, however, will ever have the 2013 Altima’s available HID headlights. Considering Nissan already offers the four-camera Around View Monitor on the 2012 Rogue crossover, we wouldn’t be surprised to see the helpful technology make an appearance on the 2013 Altima.

Powertrain choices for the 2013 Nissan Altima will start with a four-cylinder engine paired to a revised CVT. Don’t expect a six-speed manual transmission on the new Altima sedan; for the 2012 model, the manual transmission was standard equipment with the four- and six-cylinder engines but unavailable on sedans. The new Altima could offer a supercharged 2.5-liter hybrid model that, unlike the outgoing Altima, was developed by Nissan.
