Subaru Viziv 2 Concept Teased for Geneva Show

Subaru will show its Viziv 2 concept at the 2014 Geneva auto show, which should provide the latest look at a future crossover vehicle from the Japanese automaker. The Subaru Viziv 2 concept will build upon the first Viziv crossover concept that debuted at last year’s Geneva show, as well as the more-recent Subaru Viziv Evolution concept from last year’s Tokyo show.

A preliminary teaser from Subaru shows a portion of the Viziv 2 concept’s front end, and it looks like the crossover will be a significant departure from the first two concepts. Although the trapezoidal shield-grille and angular ride mirrors will carry over, the LED front headlights take on a much more regular shape that the large vertical brackets on previous Viziv concepts. The lower fascia also adds deep front air intakes and fluorescent-looking lower lamps with a hexagonal design scheme.
It’s still unclear what will be featured under the hood of the Subaru Viziv 2 concept, but it is very possible we could see a plug-in hybrid powertrain. While the original Viziv crossover concept used a 2.0-liter diesel engine combined with a battery pack and three electric motors, the Viziv Evolution from Tokyo substituted the diesel engine for a 1.6-liter direct-injection turbo gasoline boxer-four with a plug-in hybrid battery pack.

The Subaru Viziv 2 concept will debut alongside the new Subaru WRX STI and WRX STI racing car when it debuts at the 2014 Geneva auto show on March 4th. Subaru has a reputation for toning down the design of its concept cars before they reach production (see the new 2015 Subaru WRX and 2015 Subaru Legacy), but the Viziv 2 concept will still give us a good idea of the direction the brand is headed with its next generation of hybrid technology and small crossovers.
