Subaru Records Best-Ever April Sales, Up 48 Percent Over April 2009

Hot off its best first quarter ever, Subaru set another record with its best April sales figures ever. Subaru sold 23,198 vehicles in April 2010, a whopping 48-percent increase over the 15,649 cars it sold last in April 2009. Year-to-date, Subaru’s sales are up 41 percent, with sales totaling 80,692 vehicles.

“The Subaru brand is now consistently achieving new levels of sales, which is a tribute to our strong product lineup,” said Tim Colbeck, senior vice president of Subaru of America sales. “We are significantly ahead of last year’s record sales pace and expect the momentum to continue.”

Speaking of Subaru’s strong product lineup, nearly every vehicle in the lineup posted sales increases over last April, but the strongest models continue to be the Forester and the new Outback. Outback sales jumped 133 percent to 7688 units, while the Forester posted a 28-percent increase, growing from 5955 to 7627 units.

The new 2010 Legacy is also resonating with customers, as its April sales were up 50 percent over last year. Subaru moved 3851 examples off the lot, a solid improvement over the 2561 cars sold in April 2009. The Impreza line also saw some growth last month, with 3796 examples rolling off dealers’ lots, a 16-percent increase over the 3273 cars sold last April.

The one exception to Subaru’s sales growth is the Tribeca. Subaru sold only 236 examples of its aging crossover this April, which represents a 58-percent drop when compared to the 567 Tribecas sold last April.
