The 2013 Subaru BRZ sports coupe is proving to be one hot car: after just two months on sale in Japan, the BRZ has recorded almost four times the sales volumes initially projected. Subaru has sold 3551 copies of the BRZ in Japan in the last two months –despite the company predicting sales of just 450 cars monthly.
Of those cars, Subaru says two-thirds have been ordered with manual transmissions. The most popular color for the Subaru BRZ so far is WR Blue Mica (pictured here), closely followed by Satin White Pearl and Crystal Black Silica. As was expected, the car is attracting mostly young customers: nearly 28 percent of Subaru BRZ buyers in Japan are aged 30 to 39, while 27.5 percent of buyers are younger than 30.
On our shores, the Subaru BRZ won’t go on sale until the end of April. However, Subaru spokesman Michael McHale says the company has already received much stronger response from customers than originally expected. There are over 1000 pre-orders for the 2013 BRZ — even though Subaru has yet to announce pricing for the car, or let members of the general public test-drive it.
McHale said that a wealth of positive reviews of the Subaru BRZ in the media has encouraged many enthusiasts to get in line for the new sports coupe. Subaru will sell only about 500 copies of the BRZ here each month, or around 6000 cars per year.
