Still Alive? GLK Press Photos Reveals Possible 2013 Mercedes-Benz G-Class

For the past few years, we’ve wondered whether the Mercedes-Benz G-Class will continue to remain in the lineup. The classic SUV’s prospects for 2013, however, look promising after a surprise appearance in a 2013 GLK press photo for another Mercedes model.

Mercedes unveiled the revised 2013 GLK-Class yesterday with the requisite press release and photos. In one of the shots a G-Class appears to have climbed up a vertical cliff to photo bomb its smaller sibling as it poses for a front three quarter shot. The G-Glass is gleaming with new LED daytime running lamps, which suggests this could be an updated 2013 model. The photo also reveals new two-tone rims, and revised side mirror housings with dual-slit turn signal indicators that are found throughout most the Mercedes-Benz lineup.

No word yet if the G550 will get the automaker’s new 4.6-liter, twin-turbo V-8 or if the 5.5-liter, 382-hp, V-8 will carry over. Last week, it was rumored that the G65 AMG received the green light and will come packing a 6.0-liter, twin-turbo V-12 rated at 612 hp and 738 lb-ft of torque. The spy shot of a test mule revealed side mounted dual exhaust tips, a signature feature of an AMG version. Presumably, the G55 AMG should also make it to production and it’s likely to receive the M157, 5.5-liter, twin-turbo V-8 that’s tuned to produce over 500 hp.

We spoke to a Mercedes-Benz spokeswoman who neither confirmed nor denied 2013 G-Class details; she stated that the automaker plans to release details in mid-April.
