b>Stuttgart commemorates a classic and juices up the Boxster range
with a new, limited-edition model arriving in dealerships next March.
At Jaunary’s 2004 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, Porsche will unveil a limited-edition Boxster S model intended to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the famed 550 Spyder. This special edition—production of which is limited to 1953 units to commemorate the 550 Spyder’s introduction at the 1953 Paris Motor Show—features a 264-horsepower version of the 3.2-liter horizontally opposed six (up 6 horses from the standard Boxster S). It’s good enough to push this “50 Years of the 550 Spyder” Boxster from 0 to 62 mph in 5.7 seconds, and on to a top speed of 165 mph. Other enhancements include a more aggressive suspension calibration, five-millimeter spacers on all four wheels, standard eighteen-inch Carrera wheels with a seal-gray tint, and a revised six-speed shifter with a fifteen-percent shorter throw. The special edition features silver metallic paint, a color borrowed from the Carrera GT supercar. The cloth soft top, interior leather trim, and carpeting is a special cocoa brown color.The car arrives in Porsche dealerships in March 2004, priced at $59,900.
