Spotted: BMW Prepares 1 Series Facelift

BMW’s engineers are already hashing out the next-generation 1 Series range, but until that car launches in several years, expect the current 1 to receive a few mild tweaks to tide buyers over in the meantime.

The intrepid spies at Motor Trend appear to have captured what appears to be a facelifted 1 Series Coupe undergoing testing in Europe. Although much of the coupe appears to be largely identical to the present car, a few cosmetic details help set it apart. We can’t help but notice what appear to be large, dramatically-shaped air intakes in the front bumper, which are quite different than those used on the forthcoming 1 Series M Coupe.

Interestingly, BMW’s also appeared to tape over the head lamps and tail lights, suggesting they may be also revised. The front lamps largely look similar to those currently in production, but we wouldn’t be too surprised if they, like the tail lights on this prototype, ultimately incorporate LED technology for turn signals or BMW’s signature driving lights, much like those on the 5 Series.

We’ll hopefully know more about the revisions, along with what lies underneath the skin, within a year. Until then, hop over to Motor Trend to take a look at the full array of spy shots.
