Spied: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Convertible

Once again, our colleagues at Motor Trend have snapped pictures of the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG roadster out testing. The move to chop the SLS’s top should surprise no one, as nearly every supercar of its ilk offers a convertible model; look to the Audi R8 Spyder, Lamborghini Gallardo Spyder, and Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet for proof.

The SLS AMG roadster should employ the same boisterous 563-horsepower, 6.2-liter V-8 engine as its hardtop sibling. This time, the car is wearing barely any camouflage, giving us our clearest look at the ragtop yet and further proof that most of the sheetmetal hasn’t been messed with. Switching to a convertible body style, of course, means the SLS loses its glorious gullwing doors, yet fortunately the fabric roof appears to maintain the coupe’s profile when raised.

We’ve previously spotted the roofless SLS cold-weather testing in snowy conditions, and we also got a peek at the car during a Mercedes-Benz Super Bowl commercial earlier this year. Check out the full set of spy photos over at Motor Trend.
