Chrysler’s seen modest success with its radar-guided adaptive cruise control on models like the Chrysler 300 and Jeep Grand Cherokee, but according to some spy shots we’ve found, it looks like the upcoming, Dodge Dart-based Chrysler 100 hatchback will also receive the high-tech feature.
This development car’s exterior doesn’t have many surprises: most of the body panels are lifted from the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, but are stretched to both lengthen and widen the car — understandable, considering the Compact U.S. Wide platform underneath is derived from the slightly smaller C-EVO platform used in the Giulietta. Up front, there’s a typical Chrysler horizontal slatted grille and bulging, Giulietta-like headlights, along with a lower air dam that’s shaped like that on the 200 and 300 sedans.
The real surprises are inside: Our spies managed to catch two shots of the car’s cobbled-together interior, clearly showing two separate switch panels for the upcoming car’s high-tech features. Engineers took an adaptive cruise control button cluster out of a typical Chrysler steering wheel and bolted it to the dashboard, just to the right of the stereo system. There’s another set of buttons below the climate control panel, with buttons for traction control, a paddle-shifted automatic transmission, forward collision warning, adaptive cruise control, and a lane departure warning system.
Only the lane-departure warning system is new, as we’ve been able to configure Chargers, 300s, and the like with adaptive cruise for some time now — but the 100 would probably be the least expensive car available from Dodge/Chrysler dealers with any of those features. It looks like in the case of Chrysler Group compacts, Dodge is going for mid-level amenities while Chrysler’s 100 will go for Alfa Romeo-esque style and luxury.
