The Audi A3’s competition is starting to heat up, but lucky for Audi an all-new one is due sometime in the middle of next year. Although the engineers have been hard at work prepping the 2013 A3, that didn’t stop them from having a bit of fun in the snow, according to some photos from our friends at Motor Trend.
We’ve seen and reported on the A3 a few times over the past few months, so it’s no surprise that there’s a new crop of photos out there. This A3 does, however, only have a camouflage vinyl wrap on it–much less visual obfuscation than before, when it wore a full set of armor-like body cladding.
Now, it’s not hard to see that the new car will get plenty of visual cues from the A3 concept that was shown at the Geneva Motor Show back in March: thin, angled headlights featuring Audi’s signature LED running lights, a broad, hexagonal front grille, and a long character line that runs above the door handles and below the windows.
The A3, as you recall, should be the first VW/Audi model to go on sale featuring the MQB platform, which will then go on to underpin dozens of models across the VW empire, including the next-gen MkVII Volkswagen Golf and GTI. Because the architecture is so easily stretched or shrunk, expect the A3 to spawn a couple of different body styles this time around, including the return of three- and five-door hatches as well as a new sedan.
The A3 will bow at the Geneva Motor Show this coming March, and should hit showrooms shortly thereafter. Until then, check out the rest of the photos by clicking here.
