Spied: Audi S7 Dons Swirly Camouflage While Touring Europe

The Audi A7 will reportedly debut this September at the Paris Motor Show, but we hear some high-performance models will arrive shortly afterwards. Motor Trend managed to capture a few spy photos of what appears to be an S7 undergoing testing in Europe.

This is the first concrete evidence that Audi’s Quattro GmbH subsidiary is wrenching on the company’s new grand touring five-door. From what we can tell, this prototype sports larger air intakes, revised taillights, larger wheels, and a new rear fascia which has room for quad exhaust tips. If you look past those large black wheels, it also appears that Quattro managed to upgrade the car’s braking system as well.

That’s a good thing, as we’ve heard the S7 may be packing some serious heat. Early reports suggest the car may use either thea 450-horsepower version of the S6’s 5.2-liter V-10, or the 450-horsepower, 4.2-liter V-8 found in the RS5. We’d wager on the V-8 — not only does this fit with Audi’s current trend of downsizing engine choices, but it also prevents the S7 from stepping on the toes of the RS7, which reportedly uses a 580-horsepower version of the 5.2-liter V-10 offered in the R8 supercar.

Although the A7 will likely make its debut en Paris, we haven’t yet heard a definite timetable for when the S7 or RS7 will officially launch. Although this prototype looks fairly complete, we wouldn’t be surprised if the performance models are unveiled after the A7’s official launch.
