The Audi A8 has been spotted out and about once before, but spy photographers have snapped some photos of the large luxury sedan while it was testing up high in the mountains.
The new A8 will look subtly different from the outgoing car, with new headlight units that may take after the A3 sedan’s sleeker ones. The revised front grille also doesn’t appear to gape open as much as the one on the current A8. Expect modest changes to the lower front and rear fascia, as well as revised taillights.
We don’t anticipate a significantly updated interior, but should it see drastic changes? The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S-Class boasts a long list of new technology and a laptop-grade Intel-sourced microprocessor, so the refreshed A8 has its work cut out for it. An updated infotainment system may also allow be more intuitive.
So far through April, 1929 A8s have been sold compared to 4180 units of the S-Class, and that gap may continue to get larger once the new three-pointed star sedan goes on sale later this year. In 2012, the S-Class sold nearly twice as much the A8, which doesn’t draw from as rich a heritage as the Mercedes flagship sedan.
Under the hood, the A8 boasts a new powertrain lineup, including the addition of a new 333-hp supercharged 3.0-liter V-6 that serves as the new base engine. There’s also the 4.0-liter turbo V-8 in the A8 and S8, making 420 and 520 hp, respectively, and the 500-hp W-12.
