Our passion for all things Aston Martin has been shaken and stirred by a new set of spy photos from our colleagues at Motor Trend. They caught what is believed to be an Aston Martin Rapide S testing on the Nürburgring in Germany.
The Rapide is Aston’s new four-door car which, like the Porsche Panamera, is styled to look more like a coupe than a traditional sedan. It’s motivated by a 5.9-liter V-12 offering 470 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque, which sends power through a six-speed automatic transmission.
Although camouflage tape covers much of this test car, we can see that there are some mild changes compared to the standard Rapide. For starters, this tester wears big new wheels and appears to have a larger front grille opening. There’s also a new lower lip in front and a new spoiler for the deck lid, both of which attest to this car’s performance intentions.
Indeed, the Rapide S is expected to add more rapide to its abilities, with our sources saying the car will nab the 510-hp V-12 engine used in the DBS coupe. That will help it fight Porsche’s newly announced 550-hp Panamera Turbo S. To keep up with the engine, the Rapide S will undoubtedly receive larger brakes, stickier tires, and upgraded suspension components.
We expect the Aston Martin Rapide S will debut some time in 2012. Be sure to visit Motor Trend to check out the full set of spy photos.
