Spied: 2014 Chevrolet C7 Corvette Caught Again With Upscale Interior

With the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette’s expected January debut drawing closer, the C7 Corvette is undergoing its final testing. Our spy photographer caught the sports car out testing, and managed to snap detailed photos of the interior.

Long holding back the Corvette was its low-rent interior. The photos reveal a new set of seats that are not only ready for track duty but also look to be inspired by those found in the Lamborghini Aventador. There is also a new, thick-looking small-diameter steering wheel.

Outside, we get our first good look at the C7 Corvette’s rump. The center-mounted quad exhaust from the 2009 Corvette Centennial Design Concept seems to make it to production, and an LED rendition of the classic four-circle taillights can be clearly seen through the camouflage. On these prototypes, the lights look a little on the small side – these units are not the final versions, as we’ve previously seen that the Corvette will use squared-off taillights that look very close to those of the Camaro.

Speaking of the Camaro, our spy shooter caught the 2014 Corvette parked next to a 2013 Camaro ZL1 and the Corvette looks a fair bit smaller than its muscle-car sibling. We already knew that the Corvette’s wheelbase would stretch for increased high-speed stability and comfort, but, overall, the C7 will be smaller than the outgoing C6 Corvette. From what we can see, the C7 Corvette wears its smaller size well – the arching roofline, flared front fenders, and low nose translate nicely on the new car’s design.

As we’ve previously reported, a 5.5-liter version of Chevrolet’s next small-block V-8 engine should show up under the Corvette’s hood. The eight-cylinder will likely be tuned to produce around 440 hp – 10 more hp than the current 6.2-liter V-8 – and send its power to the rear wheel through either a seven-speed manual or eight-speed automatic transmission.

Take a look at the spy shots below and stay tuned for more news on the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette as its debut comes closer. Expect to see the C7 unveiled at the 2013 Detroit auto show in January.
