Hoping to compete with Toyota’s youth-oriented Scion brand, Chevrolet unveiled its production Z-Spec accessories line today with the new Sonic, which goes on sale this fall. Chevy gave us a preview of the accessory line in Fall 2010 with the Cruze, Spark and Volt Z-Spec concepts at the 2010 Specialty Equipment Marketing Association show (SEMA) in Las Vegas. New “Color Out” accent packages featuring contrasting-color exterior parts and graphics will be shown next week at the New York International Auto Show.
Parts for the Sonic will include a ground effects kit with a silver exhaust tip, contrasting mirror caps, roof spoiler, 16- or 17-inch painted alloys, and “Black Out” or “White Out” color accent packages, says Margaret Brooks, Chevy’s small car marketing chief. Black Out and White Out applies one of the two non-colors onto the mirror caps, spoiler and front grille surround, she says. Accessories also will include chrome mirror caps and door handles, cargo nets and trunk trays.
Z-Spec accessories will be priced to be affordable for buyers of cars like the Sonic, Brooks said.
The line will include body wraps, though here’s hoping Z-Spec has cooler, more fashionable graphics than on the Sonic pictured. This one looks tailor-made for a burger lunch delivery service.
