More Snapshots of Ram’s Long Hauler Concept

We first reported on Ram’s new Long Hauler Concept last week, albeit with few details and extremely grainy press photos. Well Ram has rectified both issues, and by looking at the various exterior angle shots, this mega cab and 8-foot bed behemoth could pass as a production model.

The rear three-quarter shot reveals 2 of 3 gas tanks we previously mentioned; one between the cab and bed and one located in the bed alongside a toolbox. Again, the total fuel capacity will be 162 gallons. Also shown is a custom hitch-access tailgate that should make trailer hook-ups a breeze. A back-up camera with a view of the bed should provide a better view of the trailer hitch that is an eye-straining distance away from the driver’s seat.

We also received a lone photo of the cockpit, which is standard Longhorn Edition trim with leather seating and contrasting stitching. For maximum comfort, Ram chose to go with a 2+2 seating configuration. We would’ve liked a few photos of the rear cab where most of the all the Long Hauler-exclusive goodies reside including a refrigerator, power-adjustable footrests and tray tables.

Powering the Long Hauler is the trusty 6.7-liter Cummins inline six-cylinder engine that puts out 800 pound-feet of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. We also learned that the custom self-leveling Kelderman Air Suspension features a kneel feature similar to city buses to aid with entering and exiting the truck.

The Long Hauler will be putting its monster fuel capacity to good use with a busy tour schedule that includes this week’s Kentucky Derby and various farm and RV shows coming up this summer. We assume Ram will gauge crowd reaction from this tour to help decide if there truly is a market for this monster mega cab and 8-foot bed combo.
