On the heels of news that Jeep is considering a return to the small-pickup market, we have to wonder: Does anyone really pay attention to compact pickups these days?
Now, that’s not exactly fair. Recently, right in our own backyard, we’ve spied mules of what could be the next Ford Ranger, and Indian hopeful Mahindra has some plans — presumably — to sell pickups after assembling a distribution network.
Problem is, as much as speculation runs rampant, we’ve yet to see anything but mules of the compact/midsize trucks milling around. And with each generation of pickup becoming larger than its predecessor, is the U.S. market a lost cause for smaller-than-enormous ‘utes?
Today’s Snap Judgment:
Do we still need compact pickups?
