Sinister 2013 Ram 1500 Black Express Introduced

Any color, so long as it's...well, you know.

The 2013 Ram 1500 Express offers buyers Hemi V-8 power at a discount price – but should you order the new optional Ram 1500 Black Express package, it wraps that power in sinister clothing.

Essentially a dress-up package for the entry-level 2013 Ram 1500 Express, the 2013 Ram 1500 Black Express is dressed head to toe in noire. Available only in concert with black exterior paint, the Black Express package adds a blacked-out front bumper fascia with fog lamps, a matching rear bumper, and a black grille surround accented with black hex-pattern inserts. Most exterior emblems have been removed; those that remain – notably the Ram’s head icons – are also dressed in black. 20-inch aluminum wheels, painted black to match the exterior, are also included.

The 2013 Ram 1500 Black Express package also upgrades the exterior lighting by cribbing from the 2013 Ram 1500 R/T’s parts bin. Front headlamp assemblies boast halogen projectors, along with amber LED parking lamps/ turn signals and black bezels. Rear tail lamps are also lit with LEDs, and sport matching black trim.

For a refresher, the 2013 Ram 1500 Express is oriented at budget-conscious truck buyers seeking V-8 power and a sporty appearance. As such, the 395-hp, 5.7-liter Hemi V-8 is standard, but the truck makes do with a six-speed automatic transmission in lieu of the eight-speed automatic offered in higher trim levels. The Express model also gained 20-inch aluminum wheels, a monochromatic paint treatment, fog lamps, air conditioning, and a 3.55:1 rear axle ratio, but features like power windows and door locks are optional equipment.

As is the case with the 2013 Ram 1500 Express, the 2013 Ram 1500 Black Express is available in regular and crew cab forms, and with either rear- or four-wheel drive drivelines. The Black Express package adds $1495 to the sticker price of a 2013 Ram 1500 Express, which normally starts at $26,555.
